CHRIS SEBASTIAN F.LO.W “Gonna take you on a journey …”

“I’m so excited, what tonight may bring …”

It’s a song that says it all. The music and lyric is a celebration of music and having fun. One listen and you’ll be hooked.

Welcome to Chris Sebastian’s debut single, F.L.O.W.

You won’t hear a catchier song in 2011.

“I can feel the music is calling, this is the moment …”

Chris was 13 when he realised that music was what he wanted to do with his life. Mucking around with the Cool Edit program, he recorded himself singing along to a Babyface track. “It was kind of karaoke,” he recalls, “but when I heard my voice, I thought, ‘This is it, music is what I’m going to do.’”

Soon after, Chris started writing songs. He does everything by ear. He’s never had a singing lesson or been taught to play the piano or guitar. “If you love something enough, you’re just going to do it,” he explains.

Chris’s first gig was singing the national anthem at an AFL match in front of 45,000 people in his hometown of Adelaide.

After his brother Guy won the first Australian Idol, the producers approached Chris, wanting him to be on the show. But he decided to follow his own path, forging his own way in the music world. “A lot of people think it’s been easy with my last name,” Chris says, “but it hasn’t been. I need to prove myself as an artist. And, of course, I have a lot to live up to, though our music is very different.”

“I’ll take you to a place you’ve never been …”

Inspired by artists such as Brian McKnight, Ne-Yo and Michael Jackson, Chris ignored the naysayers who told him that Australian R&B would never work. He’s stayed true to his family’s advice: “Do what you love.”

Chris wrote F.L.O.W – the first single from his upcoming debut album – with producer Jhay C and Alex Shukin. Was recording the song as much fun as it sounds? “Absolutely,” Chris smiles. “We got on a roll and did it all in one night, finishing at 4.30am.”

Chris hooked up with Jhay C when the producer was recommended to him by Brooke Addamo (Owl Eyes). The combination clicked. “I just knew we had great chemistry,” Chris says.

“I honestly believe Chris is at the forefront of what urban is Down Under,” Jhay C adds. “We’re determined to push boundaries and bring the Australian urban scene to a new level.”

Gonna take you on a journey …

It promises to be quite a trip. Resistance is useless. Go with the F.L.O.W!

“It’s all about letting go.”
