Susy Blue - Circus and Zululand (Album)

by Eva Rinaldi | Monday, December 19
Susy Blue - Circus and Zululand
The latest single from cabaret mistress of ceremonies Susy Blue (Susan Hull) Circus is a carny gem. Think circus clowns, fairy floss, popcorn, balloons and a tent. Circus is fun and catchy. Blue’s voice is light and one that may take time to get used to.
It's all pretty fresh, unique, and you can hear some nice influences from folk and jazz.
The second track on this single release, Zululand, has a more relaxed vocal style and mood.
Ms Blue is one to watch and there's plenty of folks who will be looking forward to her album.

Super Best Friends - Karma Karma
Super Best Friends announce the release of Karma Karma...the first single from the band’s new EP, Handshake – and a tour as well. In November the Canberra based three man took their show on the road, playing to Sydney and regional NSW, Canberra, Melbourne and regional Victoria, plus they have been doing some supports this month. Sweet and killer live set, awesome moves and big vocals, this is great work.

Stereo MCs - Emperor’s Nightingale (Album)

Stereo MCs - Emperor's Nightingale
Stereo MCs are an English electronic dance group, which formed in Clapham, London in 1985. They are best known worldwide for their 1992 transatlantic Top 20 hit single, "Connected". The book Guinness Rockopedia described them as "the big boys of British rap". The release is strong and confident, and many of the tracks are catchy. Expect to hear them on radio stations globally.

Dø, The - Both Ways Open Jaws (Album

by Eva Rinaldi | Monday, December 19
The Dø - Both Ways Open Jaws
The Dø is a French/Finnish indie pop band rooted in Paris in 2005. The band is Olivia Merilahti (singer and musician) and Dan Levy (multi-instrumentalist). The duo has been backed on stage by at least three different drummers (Jérémie Pontier 2007-2008, José Joyette 2008-2009, Pierre Belleville since 2009). Their virgin studio album A Mouthful topped the French charts in 2008, making them the first French act singing in English to reach that position. Both Ways Open Jaws was released in late October and ending in mid-November, the album was released worldwide.
Focused, determined and dreamy - especially dreamy, so if dreamy is your thing, you will love this. It's fresh and new, yet classic, and most assuredly fantastic musical art.
This French-Finnish duo – pronounced The "Dough", got together in 2005 while working on music for films and ballets. Their brand of indie-pop may be called eccentric and very different. Olivia Merilahti has an unique look and sound and has undergone quite the visual transformation in recent years of the front-woman from shy brunette to glam snatching redhead strongly hints of a strong push for fame. The 2008 debut album, A Mouthful, becoming the first number one album in France by a French act singing in English. They’re now mega at home and strong festival fodder worldwide. Vibrant eclecticism are found here in spades.
Truly impressive. Go and do The Dø!

FOO FIGHTERS rock the world – literally!

The Frontier Touring Company confirm the recent Foo Fighters tour rocked the antipodes on a massive scale, setting house records and causing actual seismic earth tremors!
As though seven blistering sold out performances to almost 250,000 music fans and the christening of two new stadiums were not accomplishment enough for the rock legends, the tour set three house records and literally rocked New Zealand by causing seismic tremors detected by monitoring service GeoNet.
Performing to 50,000 fans at Auckland’s iconic Western Springs Speedway last week, seismic activity was detected 1.5 and 2 kilometres from the venue by GeoNet throughout the band’s performance.
As reported by GeoNet:
“The concert vibrations were recorded as a semi continuous harmonic signal with a peak osculation of 3Hz, i.e. the ground was shaking 3 times per second in a nice rhythmic motion…The cause of the shaking is most likely the weight of the 50,000 fans dancing, as 50,000 fans is equal to around 5,000 tonnes of mass moving (or moshing) on the ground for the duration of the concert.”
Unanimously hailed by the media as the biggest and best rock tour of the year and the pinnacle of live rock entertainment, Foo Fighters’ Australian tour set house records at NIB Stadium in Perth, AAMI Park in Melbourne and Gold Coast’s brand new AFL venue, Metricon Stadium. All of which are certainly no mean feat in the current climate of dwindling music festival attendances in this market.
“Pure, unadulterated, legendary stadium rock by the world's finest rock band, the Foo Fighters.”
- Triple M
“Our ears are still buzzing after marvelling at the best live concert to hit Perth all year - rock gods the Foo Fighters.”
The Sunday Times
“The biggest rock show of 2011.”
The West Australian
“Their masterclass in stadium rock demonstrated you don't need pyros and  circus tricks to stage one of the concerts of the year.”
The Daily Telegraph

Foo Fighters’ current album Wasting Light and DVD Back & Forth are both approaching double platinum with the album being the band’s fifth release to reach #1 on the ARIA album charts.

A Day To Remember + The Used + You Me At Six - Music News Australia

There is a new wave of artists that are constantly evolving and pushing the boundaries. A DAY REMEMBER are at the forefront of this uprising redefining a genre that was desperately seeking creativity,

2011 has been a monstrous year for the Florida quintet. From topping billboard charts and being crowned MTV’s breakthrough artist of 2011 to selling out arena’s across the globe, propelling A DAY TO REMEMBER to unprecedented heights.  Their new album ‘ What separates me from you’ showcases the band at their unrelenting best with alternative press proclaiming “Whether it’s crafting a pop-punk anthem or delivering a sonic beatdown, A DAY TO REMEMBER do it better than everyone, and for the rest of us, that’s where the separation lies.” – Alternative Press

THE USED have been a main stay in a genre that has seen many of their contemporary’s come and go. On their most recent outing their 4th full length ‘Artwork’ THE USED once again push the boundaries of a genre they helped pioneer with Absolutpunk.net declaring, “THE USED could possibly be the biggest post-hardcore band of the past decade, and if they aren’t already, they will be with this record”.

Known for their notoriously adrenalized live sets, YOU ME AT SIX have cemented their growing reputation as one of the world’s most electrifying bands and they “are going further up in the world every single day, the question is; is there really any stopping them?” – Change The Record

YOU ME AT SIX return in support of their critically acclaimed new album ‘Sinners Never Sleep’.

What a day and what a night. This was Australia's night of nights for kids and teenagers.

Thousands of fans, mainly teenage girls, swamped outside the Sydney Entertainment Centre, some from as early as 5am, waiting for their favorite entertainment industry stars.

By around 2pm, the line ups behind barricades were 30 people deep, and much of the press pack turned animal. Some teenage girls had home-made signs listing their mobile phone numbers, which I thought was not appropriate, and potential dangerous for the young ladies who advertised them. I don't know if I was fortunate or not to be taking photographs alongside the fans on this big outing. The million dollar question at big red carpet events like this is "Who is worse: The media, the fans, the kids or parents?"

Finally, at 6pm, the indoor part of the Nick awards kicked off and the audience went banana.

Ok, you want event results we hear...

Bindi and Bob Irwin have scored top bragging rights at the Australian Nickelodeon Kids' Choice awards, taking home the Hall of Slime Award for 2011 (the slime is green in case you wondered, and CM Punk won't forget it in a hurry).

Bindi and Bob beat Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Guy Sebastian and LA - USA planted Rove McManus, were spurted with green slime as popular Daniel MacPherson announced them as the first ever winners of the award.

"It is such an honour just to be nominated. It's a wonderful award," Bindi told the media.

"We're carrying on in our dad's footsteps. He originally got the Burp Award here at Nickelodeon," she said.

Hosted by iCarly mega stars Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Kress, the evening showcased bowls of maggots, an orange carpet, big and small envelopes and 5 tonnes of slime at the Sydney Entertainment Centre to mark the 16th annual Australian Kids' Choice Awards.

Australia's own teen idol Cody Simpson kicked booty, snatching up all three of his nominated categories - Super Fresh Award, Awesome Aussie and Fave Aussie Musos.

"I might not live in Australia at the moment, but Australia always lives in me," he told the crowd as he accepted his third award for the night, Awesome Aussie. The pop star performed a medley of some of his numbers 'Just For You' and 'On My Mind' for the thousands of screaming fans (80% girls), entering the grand stage with his guitar before ripping it up with dancers, and he even picked a one in a million young lady fan from the sold out crowd to sing to.

A record breaking 1.6 million kids' votes were counted to determine the winners.

Ten's Masterchef judge Matt Preston, who also took out the award for Awesome Oldie, dipped his arm into a big tank of green slime to rip out the word Julia, announcing Julia Gillard as the Slime Minister.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard (look-a-like) accepted the award. The real one wasn't there. The very same one who also didn't watch the ABC tele sexy tribute to her since she "had better things to do".

"Tonight, I'm proud to go green because you voted me Slime Minister," Julia Gillard's look-a-like announced to the audience.

"I'd like to ban budgie smugglers", she added before dancing with Australia's Got Talent winners, Justice Crew and being covered in slime along with "Mr Masterchef" Matt Preston.

Kyle Sandilands beat WWE superstar CM Punk ('The Best In The World'... in case you didn't hear) to win Baddest Baddie, accepting the award electronically from Los Angeles, US of A).

A bush tucker bag of pre-recorded video messages were heard from international superstar Justin Bieber who snatched the Hottest Guy Hottie Award, LMFAO who won Fave Song for Party Rock Anthem, Katy Perry who nicked home Fave International Artist and Victoria Justice who grabbed Hottest Girl Hottie.

Jennette McCurdy proved that she was a fab choice to co-host the night, besting Camp Oranges Luke and Wyatt, Hamish and Andy and Josh Thomas to take out the LOL Award.

Cody Simpson returned to the grand stage to wrap up the night, performing his hit number All Day before being covered in green slime from head to toe.

Insiders tip it was one of the better Nick Australia Kid's Choice Awards from a paid audience perspective, but also one of the most chaotic in history from a red carpet planted fan perspective.

What a crazy day. We hope no one got hurt - big ego's or otherwise. Ok, get nicked.

Replays of the event can be found on Foxtel's Nickelodeon channel this Saturday (Noon) and Sunday at 10.30pm.

Def Leppard go hard in Sydney Australia

Def Leppard have still got it.

Rolling Stone Magazine, the music and entertainment bible, may have labeled the British rock group the "unluckiest band in the world", but the fans and media tonight sure felt lucky to experience them live.

They headlined the Sydney Entertainment Centre tonight, and support group, Heart, showed they had plenty of that. It was Heart's first Australian tour believe it or not and Ann and Nancy Wilson sounded fantastic.

We understand Def Leppard are just coming off a rest, having spent more than a decade on the road.

One may have thought that DL may have slowed down quite a bit, but this wasn't the case. The boys - Phil Collen, Rick Savage, Rick Allen and Vivian Campbell fronted by Elliot, we're here to party big time.

They offered up loud, monster rock, helped along with fist pumping and strong crowd support, joining in for much of the fun.

The track list included Rocket, Animal, Let’s Get Rocked Two Steps Behind.

Base man Savage and the strong one-armed drummer Allen led the open.

The number that many of the crowd had come to see was Pour Some Sugar On Me, with fans going nutso.

Like fellow rock gods, The Rolling Stones, age has hardly put a dent in their performance or sound.

The Sydney Entertainment Centre has been the Sydney home to a lot of great rock bands over the past year and Def Leppard need not play second fiddle to anyone. Heart gave it their all too. Rock on.

The Great Gatsby: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Edgerton And Baz Do White Bay Power Station

November 2011What fun and excitement us locals have been having on our modest sightseeing tours of Baz Lurmann's set of 'The Great Gatsby'.

We've been playing our own little game of 'Catch Me If You Can', and if your a Leo Dicaprio fan, you will have a bit of an idea of what we've been talking about. There was no escaping our camera lens and local information network.

Even Leo has been putting his hand over his mouth and chin from time to time, in order to try to protect his identity and keep the mystique.

The local film site was the former abandoned White Bay Power Station at Rozelle. Main attractions are Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, but we're also been happy to spy on Joel and director, Baz Luhrmann too.

'Spot the celeb' is our little game we play, and the other, 'snap the celeb', while the others we can't get into detail on, but it's a bit of 'Catch Me If You Can'.

It's all set in the 1920s, and the costumes and cars are magnificent.

We call it 'AussieWood', rather than Hollywood, and we're hoping Leo and friends spend a bit more time down under before they head back to the U.S. A little birdie told us something about 'Blue Mountains', but that's just a rumour ok.

It's been a big week in Australia for celeb hunters with Gatsby in Sydney, Kim Kardashian doing a quickly in Australia, Val Kilmer doing Brisbane and Melbourne for a comic fest, Warnie and Liz doing the Cup in Melbourne, and Tiger Woods doing Perth.

Gatsby director Luhrmann has been doing lots of evening film scenes at the freaky place known as the Valley of the Ashes.

Wilson's garage is a hive of activity, where Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton) frequents his mistress, Myrtle Wilson (Isla Fisher). Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) is up for Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan), and we think a few of the extras might be going at it also.

Be looking out of swags of classics cars, at least one of which is understood to get involved in massive accident towards the end of the movie.

Some other film scenes have been shot at Fox Studios, Moore Park, where buildings from 1920s New York have been recreated.

Budget is in the region of $120 million, but we heard its almost certain to go over budget.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's, writer of the famous novel would be proud.

We hear Luhrmann will return to Fox Studios, Moore Park. There's also a rumour of a Gatsby's Castle scene to be shot at St Patrick's College in Manly, and then there's the Blue Mountains shooting tip off.

Gatsby is expected to open by Christmas next year, but in the meantime we're enjoying seeing Leo and friends do their thing close up, likely closer than Baz would have preferred, but that's show business.
