AT LAST The Etta James Story Starring VIKA BULL and the ESSENTIAL R&B BAND Sydney Opera House – one week only

Vika Bull, one of Australia’s most respected, powerful soul singers, is set to tell the
story of one of the most influential soul singers of all time: Etta James.
Written by critically acclaimed UK author John Livings, At Last: The Etta James
Story will premiere at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre from 19 February 2013
(just over a year after Etta James’ death in January 2012), before heading to
Sydney Opera House opening on 30 April for one week only.

Vika Bull is a commanding singer with an impressive career, having sung
alongside some of the Australia’s most iconic voices including Paul Kelly, John
Farnham, Tim Finn and The Black Sorrows, and supported world famous
musicians Bob Dylan, Sting, Joe Cocker and Billy Joel.

“Etta James has had a huge influence on my musical journey. Someone played her
record to me when I had just started performing, and from then on I was hooked.
She had a voice so powerful it could knock you over, and I just love her sassy
cheekiness on stage!” says Ms Bull.

The narrative concert will see Vika put her heart into telling the story of Etta’s
turbulent life and give over her soul to voice Etta’s most beloved songs including
‘Tell Mama,’ ‘Something’s Got A Hold On Me’, ‘Pushover’, the heart rending
‘I’d Rather Go Blind’, her iconic signature song ‘At Last’ and many more.

Etta James’ prolific career was shadowed by recurring problems with drug
addiction; her time spent playing to thousands of fans juxtaposed with periods
inside several prisons and rehab clinics.

“Like many famous musicians Etta had a tough life, but she kept on coming back -
singing and performing until she became ill in 2010. Now, a year after her death we
are telling her story, and all I can say is I hope I can do her justice,” says Ms Bull.
Producers Moira Bennett and Simon Myers are thrilled to have Vika Bull tell the
story of Etta James.

“Vika is a phenomenal singer – her voice has a similar raw strength and depth of
emotion to Etta’s, and that combined with her depth of experience in the music
industry make her the perfect fit,” says Ms Bennett.

Vika has maintained a successful music career since the 1980s, when she and her
sister Linda helped The Black Sorrows to achieve multi-platinum status. Since then
they have released their own albums (the first produced by Paul Kelly) and
performed on some of the biggest stages in the world.

In the 1990s Etta became recognized as one of the first to bridge the gap between
rhythm & blues, rock & roll and pop. She has since inspired the careers of a new
generation of artists such as Christina Aguilera, Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse
and Adele.

Backed by a sizzling hot 8-piece band, Vika Bull will sing Etta James songs with
raw emotion, punctuated by an intimate telling of Etta’s tumultuous life.
‘It was hearing an Etta James CD when I was thirteen that
made me want to sing’ Adele

GODDESS: Ronan Keating, Laura Michelle Kelly and Magda Szubanski confirmed to appear in Melbourne

Irish sensation Ronan Keating, West End and Broadway star Laura Michelle Kelly and much-loved comedian Magda Szubanski will attend the world premiere of their new Australian film GODDESS in Sydney on Wednesday, March 6 following an appearance in Melbourne on Thursday, February 28.

Directed by Mark Lamprell, Goddess is the first starring film role for both Keating and Kelly.

An Oliver Award winner, Kelly is one of the musical theatre world’s brightest stars having appeared in Beauty & The Beast, Les Miserables, Mama Mia and My Fair Lady but it was her title performance in Mary Poppins for which she won the most acclaim, a role she reprised on Broadway.

Based on the 1996 cult hit one-woman show, Sink Songs by Joanna Weinberg, Goddess is a feel-good musical full of catchy, original songs, vibrant dance routines and a cast of unforgettable characters.

When young mum Elspeth Dickens (Kelly), mother of naughty twin boys, installs a webcam in her kitchen, her funny sink-songs make her a cyber-sensation. While her husband James (Keating) is off saving the world’s whales, Elspeth is offered the chance of a lifetime by advertising guru Cassandra Wolfe (Szubanski) but when forced to choose between fame and family, the newly anointed internet goddess almost loses it all.

The film’s talented Australian ensemble includes Tamsin Carroll (Dusty: The Musical), Dustin Clare (Spartacus: Blood and Sand, McLeod’s Daughters), Lucy Durack (Legally Blonde: The Musical), Celia Ireland (Wentworth, All Saints), Hugo Johnstone-Burt (Cloudstreet) and Pia Miranda (Looking for Alibrandi, Garage Days). Cameron Lyon, comedian Corrine Grant and Australia’s most subscribed video blogger Natalie Tran also make their feature film debut.

Goddess is yet to be rated (Likely Classification PG) and will be released in Australian cinemas on March 14, 2013.

Due to overwhelming demand, McManus Entertainment is thrilled to announce that Chris Isaak will play a second Sydney date on his upcoming Australian tour. Owing to the sell-out success of his previously announced date at Sydney’s State Theatre, a new show has been added on Tuesday 9 April at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre.

Chris Isaak says, “Australian audiences are the best! I think I have a show they are gonna dig! We are playing all the hits and it’s really fun to throw in a whole “show within the show” where we play a bunch of the real early rock n roll hits like “Ring Of Fire” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love”. We roll out an upright piano and a stand up bass and I think it’s the most fun I’ve ever had on stage. I’m looking forward to surfing till soundcheck and playing all night”.

From crooner to retro-rocker to one of music’s most sensitive singer-songwriters, Chris has been making some of the coolest music for the past 25 years. In addition to being a multi-platinum artist, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, acclaimed actor and all-round great guy, Chris is a charismatic showman and entertainer. His live shows are spectacular events that keep his audiences coming back again and again. His stories alone are enough to keep people wanting more! His long-time legendary band, Silvertone, featuring Kenney Dale Johnson on drums, will accompany Chris on his upcoming Australian tour.

Some of his biggest hits include Wicked Game, Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing, Dancin’, Blue Hotel and Somebody’s Crying.

Chris Isaak will be joined by special guest Jon Stevens at all the shows (except Melbourne). Kasey Chambers will join Chris for the Melbourne show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
