Sunglass Hut marked the start of the summer season last night by launching Australia's first ever floating pop-up store, one of a trifecta located on Sydney Harbour.

Sunglass Hut marked the start of the summer season last night by launching Australia's first ever floating pop-up store, one of a trifecta located on Sydney Harbour.

The stores were launched with a special performance by Grammy Award winning and multi-platinum recording artist Jason Mraz along with his long-time friend, percussionist Noel "Toca" Rivera.

The stores mark the first floating pop-up locations for global brand Sunglass Hut, who have over 200 stores in Australia and New Zealand and over 2000 around the world. Visitors can take in the views while shopping the worldwide range of Sunglass Hut best-sellers and an exclusive 150 piece collection of-never-seen-before sunglasses that will not be available for purchase anywhere else in the world until February 2012.

Sunglass Hut has put together a four-day pop-up package that incorporates a number of elements to provide a truly amplified brand experience. In addition to offering high quality product and the best customer service, each location will feature a visually stimulating experience including 360 views of Sydney Harbour. The floating store is designed around the Sunglass Hut circle logo, incorporates a DJ booth and features a transparent fit-out to capture the beautiful Sydney Harbour surrounds.

"Retail is no longer just about four walls and a door and you cannot go past Sydney Harbour for an outdoor store - you would be hard pressed to find a better setting for selling sunglasses in the sun," said Chris Beer, CEO, Luxottica, Asia Pacific.

"At Luxottica, we believe that people around the world are hungry for innovative retail concepts that intensify emotions and enhance their purchasing experience. With the first floating store located at Sydney Harbour, Sunglass Hut sets the tone, attracting shoppers that will be inspired by the natural scenery while shopping the best eyewear selection of world-known fashion brands," says Fabio d'Angelantonio, Executive Vice President Sun & Luxury Retail and Chief Marketing Officer at Luxottica globally.

The Sunglass Hut floating store will be open to the public from Friday 18th November to Sunday 20th November. Ten percent of all sales from the floating store will be donated to Luxottica's OneSight Foundation, a program dedicated to improving vision through outreach, research and education.

If you have a reasonable sized budget and are fashion conscious, you should consider a visit to Sunglasses Hut before the weather gets any hotter this Summer.

Gurrumul and Mauboy to perform for Obama

Jess Mauboy Gurru
The White House has asked Gurrumul Yunupingu and Jessica Mauboy to perform on Thursday before US president Barack Obama. The show will most likely be at RAAF Base Darwin when the President addresses troops.

Jessica Mauboy had complications attending Darwin. After being in the Caribbean as part of the Gold Coast’s successful bid for the Commonwealth Games, she returned to LA via Miami to catch a flight back to Australia. But an hour out of Miami, the floor beneath her first class seat started to pop, and the pilot had to return to Miami to screams of sirens from emergency services.

Alter Bridge and Steel Panther will Rock Soundwave 2012

ALTER BRIDGE are fast becoming a rock juggernaut and are on the way to firmly placing themselves in the rock 'n' roll pantheon forever.

Meet Myles Kennedy (Slash’s frontman), Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips; the future of rock.

With 2 amazing albums already under their belt ALTER BRIDGE has crafted one of the best rock records of recent time with AB III. In fact, it's a sprawling masterpiece that illuminates just how brilliant this band truly is, and it's going to make believers of the world.

This double bill of debauchery could not be filled by anyone else except STEEL PANTHER.

STEEL PANTHER is the hottest band out of Hollywood since Motley Crue, Guns N’ Roses and Poison ruled the Sunset Strip. They remained rock's best kept secret for decades -- prowling the Sunset Strip with weekly residencies while keeping the sleazy flame of rock 'n' rock alive…”But no longer. The ferocious Steel Panther has been let out of its iron cage and has only one mission: to roar with the tiger-like growl and strut with the sensual prance of glam rock n' roll from the halcyon days of the 1980s.” – Metal As Fuck

With their brand new album ‘Balls Out’ in tow, STEEL PANTHER are “Crude, rude, filthy, and more infectious than a bad case of herpes. – Revolver Mag.

Tickets go on sale Friday 25 November, 9am.

Al Pacino Does The Star Lyric Theatre In Sydney, by Eva Rinaldi - 17th November 2011

The Star (formally Star City Casino) continues to push the celebrity angle, fresh off Leonardo DiCaprio enjoying his digs on site, and even welcoming Stevie Wonder on stage a couple of weeks ago.

Tonight the long awaited 'An Evening With 'Al Pacino' show hit an appreciative and near capacity Lyric Theatre audience.

Pacino aka 'Scarface' (Tony Montana) and 'The Godfather' (Michael Corleone) grasped the crowd from the get go, and kept them for most of the 2 hour performance. Pacino received a standing ovation from his loyal fans and you could tell immediately that the actor was there to give it his all.

Well known Australian media personality Ray Martin moderated / interviewed, which I think added to the overall show.

Cutting away to the big screen at Pacino's instruction to show some of his favourite and most powerful acting work was a nice touch and no doubt gave us Aussies the opportunity to see some snippets from some of his films that were never released in Australia. I also enjoyed hearing about what he calls his "experimental films" and it seems like Pacino is interested in getting into producing since he's funded so many of his personal projects largely by himself (despite a young Steven Spielberg warning him against that sort of thing back in the 70s and 80s.)

My favorite part of the evening was the Question and Answer session.  I counted not one but three oddball type questions from the audience. If you do the math about 20% of the question were pretty strange, but maybe that is just a reflection of different kinds of people in society.  As they say, it takes all kinds.

The show was a thumbs up, however I felt that the first half of the show was more entertaining and I enjoyed his Hollywood angles and stories... especially his Marlon Brando "secrets" and The Actors Studio stories were wonderful.

The last half of the show was a bit too clever and arthouse for me, however I appreciate that many of the audience members are hardcore Pacino fans and almost worship the ground he stands on.

The show is back at The Lyric Theatre tomorrow, in what is quite likely the last time Australian audiences will have the opportunity to experience Pacino close up here.

Thanks for being so giving of yourself Al, and we hope to see you back on the big screen soon.
