Chilean band ILLAPU returns to Australia for tour

Chilean band ILLAPU returns to Australia for tour; Music telling stories of love, life, justice and social issues...

The promotion was accurate to a T - Listening to Illapu’s songs is like hearing the whisper of the wind from the Andes.

For those don't know, Illapu means "Lighting Bolt". There's no doubt that the group has facilitated a lighting bolt or two in their motherland over the years - especially of the political nature.

Today we had the pleasure to meet and interview Roberto Márquez Bugueño and Alejandro Vargas at the beautiful Sebel Hotel, Surry Hills, Sydney.

Alejandro kindly assisted with English translation, while Roberto was able to provide excellent insight as to what the group was all about, and what Australian audiences can expect on this tour.

Many fans (and soon fans to be) may be a touch surprised to learn that the group has been to Australia six times now. This can be explained by the beautiful sound of their voices, instruments and the positive energy that resonates.  It doesn't appear to matter if an Australian audience member can understand Chilean or not - as it has been said through the ages of humanity - music is the universal language.

With the bands considerable 40 years plus experience, they are able to articulate through their music, the tales of those 40 years of love, life, justice and social issues - with a good amount of political content thrown in their for good measure.

1991 was a key year for Illapu where they feel that achieved considerable success on not only a spiritual level, but also of a commercial nature, where one of their songs 'Lejos del amor' would spend 46 weeks at number 1 in the charts.

It is very apparent that this group loves life and loves their music with deep passion, and is very much looking forward to sharing their gifts with Australians who love beautiful music.

Tickets are priced from just $89, with some concessions available, and this represents tremendous value and helps make the opportunity to experience world class performing artists more accessible than you would expect.

If you are already a fan - you know how great they are, and if your a newbie to the group, you can expect to have a wonderful time experiencing their musical and vocal genius in the flesh.

We thank them for once again visiting our shores and wish their continues success and happiness on their extraordinary journey.

Headlining Womadelaide and performing in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane...

Listening to Illapu’s songs is like hearing the whisper of the wind from the Andes…as they create music with songs about love, life, justice and social issues.

ILLAPU was founded in 1971 by four brothers from Antofagasta in northern Chile. As freedom advocates they became well-known for their cultivated rendering of Andean folklore and Bolivian rhythms, a fusion that later developed into the Nueva Canción movement. ILLAPU produce folkloric, explorative music with songs about love, life, justice and current social issues. They have.

ILLAPU have played throughout Latin America, Europe, Australia, Asia, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Olympia Theatre in Paris and the Sydney Opera House.  In March 2013 they return to Australia for their sixth tour headlining WOMADELAIDE with concerts on both the opening and closing nights. Since then, Illapu have continued to produce folkloric explorative music with songs about love, life and justice and have played all over the world from Latin America, Europe, Australia, Asia, New York to Paris.

AEROSMITH CONFIRMED TO TOUR AUSTRALIA IN 2013 STELLAR SYDNEY SHOW FEATURING WOLFMOTHER, GRINSPOON, SPIDERBAIT AND THE DEAD DAISIES

April’s about to get a whole lot louder with the news that Aerosmith are returning to Australia for the first time in 24 years! McManus Entertainment is excited to announce that legendary rockers Aerosmith will play Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on Sunday 28th April with a stellar line-up of special guests, including Wolfmother, Grinspoon, Spiderbait, The Dead Daisies, Kingswood and Diva Demolition.

Aerosmith will also play shows in Brisbane and Melbourne in May. All tickets go on sale from 12 noon on Monday 4th March, 2013.

Promoter Andrew McManus says; “I’m thrilled to bring Aerosmith back to Australia. They are one of the greatest rock and roll bands in the world and I can’t wait for them to rock out with their loyal Aussie fans. We have created a super show in Sydney to celebrate their first gig, with a cracking line-up of Australian bands joining Aerosmith on stage! You really don’t wanna miss a thing! ”

Legends. Icons. Idols. These are the words used to describe those rare bands that have been adored for a lifetime and immortalised as distinct creators of rock and roll. The band members are legends, icons and idols, dynamic in the present; as cool and innovative now as they were thirty years ago. They are a phenomenon, a force of nature, trail-blazing, unstoppable and show no signs of slowing down.

With Steven Tyler on vocals, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford on guitars, Tom Hamilton on bass, and Joey Kramer on drums, they’ve outdone the trends and fads of rock and roll to become one of the most powerful and electrifying forces in popular music.

Aerosmith emerged in the early ‘70s with a sexy swagger and thrusts of metal and glam, creating quintessential power ballads such as Dream On. A string of gold and platinum albums followed including Get Your Wings, Toys In The Attic and Rocks.

In 1986 Steven Tyler and Joe Perry appeared on Run DMC’s cover of Walk This Way introducing the band to a new generation of fans. Aerosmith returned to the charts in the late ‘80s with smash hits like Dude Looks Like a Lady, Rag Doll, Angel, Love In An Elevator and Grammy Award-winning Janie’s Got a Gun. The band were a driving force of the video medium, leading the look, style and attitude of the ‘80s MTV generation. Their videos are classics and Aerosmith continued to make cutting edge videos throughout their career.

1993’s Get a Grip was the band’s first album to debut at number one on the Billboard charts and reached number three on the Australian album chart. The album featured two Grammy Award-winning singles, Livin’ On The Edge and Crazy. This was followed up by another number one album in 1997, Nine Lives, featuring the hit single Pink which saw them win their fourth Grammy Award. In 1998 Aerosmith released the huge worldwide smash hit I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing from the film Armageddon starring Steven Tyler’s daughter, Liv. This reached number one all over the world including the US and Australia. The song was nominated for an Academy Award and opened the band up to another new generation of fans.

In 2001 Aerosmith were inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” and were included in both Rolling Stone’s and VH1’s lists of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time”.

The band continued to release albums and tour throughout the 2000’s as well as release solo albums and pursue solo projects. In 2012, Aerosmith released their 15th studio album, Music From Another Dimension! and kicked off their “Global Warming” tour which will see them play to Australian fans in April and May.

Aerosmith have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, won more than 30 awards including four Grammy Awards and are the best-selling American rock band of all time. They also hold the record for the most gold and multi-platinum albums by an American group. With such an unstoppable passion for creating great music, a unique creative vision and an unyielding appreciation for their fans, there are no limits to what the future holds for Aerosmith.

Joining Aerosmith in Sydney is Grammy, ARIA, APRA & Triple J album of the year award winners, Wolfmother. They are coming out of recording hiatus to perform exclusively with Aerosmith. Forming in the early noughties, Wolfmother released their self-titled debut album in October 2005 resulting in close to two million sales worldwide, shows all over the world, multiple ARIA Awards and a Grammy including numerous performance accolades with icons including Jimmy Page & AC/DC to Lenny Kravitz requesting Wolfmother as guests.

Following a brief hiatus, the band returned in 2009 with a fresh line-up and the band’s sophomore album “Cosmic Egg” debuting in the upper echelons of charts in over 13 countries including Australia, USA, UK, Canada and Denmark. "Cosmic Egg” also saw the inclusion of many of its songs included within a variety of major films. Wolfmother recently completed a sold out headline and festival tour across Europe and the UK and have since been hard at work writing and recording their third album due for release in 2013.

Grinspoon join the line up for the Sydney show. Following a massively successful Big Day Out run, the Aussie rockers are heading off on their own national “Black Rabbits” tour. Grinspoon’s latest singles Passerby and Branded from current album “Black Rabbits” have now joined classics like Chemical Heart, Ready One and Champion, a set described as ‘all killer no filler’.

Spiderbait also feature in Sydney.  With three talented songwriters, Spiderbait have never been confined by genre or the expectations of others.  Combining their punk rock roots with an appreciation of pop song craftsmanship, Spiderbait have put together Greatest Hits, featuring 22 of the greatest tunes such as Buy Me A Pony, Black Betty and new single On My Way

Australian rock band The Dead Daisies will also join Aerosmith on tour in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. The Dead Daisies feature Jon Stevens, Charley Drayton, Richard Fortus, Jim Hilbun and David Lowy. Jon and David first met in 2006 but it wasn’t until 2012 that they started writing songs together. With a mutual love of classic late ‘70s and early ‘80s rock and soul, The Dead Daisies were born. Jon Stevens is one of Australia’s most popular and respected singers. He has had a remarkable career; from lead singer of rock bands Noiseworks and INXS to successful solo artist. Charley Drayton, an American multi-instrumentalist, musician and producer, has played as a drummer and bass guitarist for many bands including Keith Richards project X-pensive Winos, The Cult and Australian bands The Divinyls and Cold Chisel. Guitarist Richard Fortus is currently touring with legendary band Guns N’ Roses, and previously with Thin Lizzy. David Lowy on guitar is best known in Mink, Red Phoenix and The Angels and Jim Hilbun as bassist, saxophone player and melodic vocalist for The Angels and the Divinyls.

transKingswood and Diva Demolition complete the super Sydney line-up.

Coinciding with his national tour, Ed Sheeran performs for Channel Seven's morning program Sunrise and Nova969 in Sydney

At the age of 21, Ed Sheeran has achieved what many performers could hope to achieve in a lifetime. AMALI WARD TO ‘KNOCK YOU OUT’ WITH NEW SINGLE & TOUR

Tasmanian raised, now Sydney based pop and soul songstress Amali Ward today releases her brand new single Knock You Out. Amali will hit the road this March playing in Melbourne, Sydney, Launceston and Hobart on her Knock You Out tour to launch the single and preview her debut album Back In Time.

With Amali’s soulful sound and tracks from her yet to be released debut album to be performed, fans are in for a great show. “I'm really looking forward to getting on the road and showcasing these songs I’ve worked so hard on to everyone out there. It’s going to be a lot of fun!” said Amali.

2012 was a busy and successful year for Amali, supporting UK superstar Seal at his Sydney shows, and her single Knock You Out won the International John Lennon Song Writing Contest, an annual competition open to songwriters from around the world and presented by Yoko Ono herself.

“Knock You Out is about people who make offhand, divisive comments about sexuality, religion or race without thinking of the consequences. Thankfully we are progressing to a place where these attitudes aren’t accepted anymore, but we still aren’t treating all members of society equally”, said Amali of the timely subject matter of her single. “Winning the John Lennon Song Writing Contest award was definitely one of my proudest moments”, said Amali.

Before winning the International John Lennon Song Writing Contest, Amali honed her song writing skills in America working with the teams behind Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Rihanna and Beyonce. Amali then came home to write her debut album in Australia before returning to LA to collaborate with producer David Ryan Harris (John Mayer, Lupe Fiasco, India.Arie) and John Mayer’s touring band for Back In Time, set for release later this year.

I was lucky enough to have most of John Mayer’s touring band play on the entire album, these guys are incredible musicians who have played for pretty much every big name artist you can think of! So it was just insane to have them all jamming in a room in LA to songs I had written back home”, said Amali.

Amali first grabbed the nation’s attention back in 2007 as one of the youngest contestants and sole Tasmanian to reach the Top 10 on the hit show Australian Idol. Following her time on the show, Amali released a self-written/produced independent EP which was well received by fans and critics alike and saw her play at Bluesfest (the first idol alumni to do so), the Southern Roots Festival, and open for the likes of The Bamboos, Paris Wells and US group Naturally 7 at just 18 years of age.

Knock You Out available now on iTunes.
