Crosby, Stills & Nash To Tour Australia In 2012, by Eva Rinaldi

Music Legends Crosby, Stills & Nash To Tour Australia

In the words of Crosby, Stills & Nash – it’s been a long time coming – but the wait ends now! McManus Entertainment is thrilled to announce that music legends Crosby, Stills & Nash (CSN) –David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash – will tour Australia in March and April 2012 with tickets going on sale from Monday 19 December.

“CSN are one of the most enduring musical partnerships of our time and have been wowing fans since way back. We are proud to bring these iconic performers to Australian audiences so they too can experience some of the magic,” says concert promoter Andrew McManus.

Since forming in 1969, the world’s first “supergroup” have delivered countless hits, with their timeless harmonies and melodic folk-rock becoming a cornerstone of today’s rock ‘n roll. In 2012 CSN will take to the road once again, as they have done on a recurring basis ever since their very first gig together before half a million people at Woodstock more than four decades ago.

Hailed as ‘the voice of a generation’, fans can look forward to yet another epic performance as they play songs from their amazing catalogue of hits, including Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Marrakesh Express, Wooden Ships, Teach Your Children, Carry On, Our House, Long Time Gone, as well as the classic anthems of the Woodstock generation –Helpless and Woodstock.

The California sun-drenched embrace of their harmonies and musical variety has cemented their reputation as true music legends, but don’t just take our word for it. In 1969, after seeing one of their shows, rock immortal Jimi Hendrix declared, “I've seen Crosby, Stills and Nash burnin' ass … they're groovy, Western-sky music,” – and according to Rolling Stone, Jimi “knew what he was talking about.”

These three consummate singer-songwriters have more than lived up to this reputation, with their masterpiece debut LP Crosby, Stills & Nash jumping straight to the top of the charts and Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list. That same year, they were honoured with the GRAMMY® award for Best New Artist and the following year 1970's Déjà vu also made the prestigious "500 Greatest" list. CSN have since captured the hearts and minds of an entire era, becoming inductees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, as well as the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2007.

CSN have been performing music together for more than four decades and have weathered changing times and various configurations, while simultaneously captivating the world with their peerless three-part harmony vocals, inspired songwriting, musical virtuosity and social activism.

Don’t miss your chance to experience these iconic singer/songwriters perform live in 2012.

Proudly Presented by MAX, Wave FM, 3AW, The Age, 2GB & The Sydney Morning Herald

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Australian Tour Coming In January; Melbourne Premiere And Sydney Red Carpet

Vanessa Hudgens (Suckerpunch and High School Musical) and Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Centre of the Earth and The Hunger Games) are heading down under to Australia for their new film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

The tour lands the duo in Melbourne first for the world premiere on Sunday the 15th of January before they adventure to Sydney for a red carpet premiere on Tuesday the 17th of January.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island begins when young Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role from the first film) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist.  It’s a place of strange life forms, mountains of gold, deadly volcanoes, and more than one astonishing secret.

Unable to stop him from going, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest.  Together with a helicopter pilot (Luis Guzman) and his beautiful, strong-willed daughter (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island under the sea and bury its treasures forever.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is directed by Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore). It also stars Michael Caine as Sean’s grandfather, Alexander Anderson, and Kristin Davis as Sean’s mum, Liz Anderson.

JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND 3D releases in cinemas nationally on January 19th.

The folks at Village Roadshow (Australia) are well organised and friendly, so the Melbourne and Sydney premiere's are "don't miss" attractions, from both a news media and fan perspective.

The movie tagline is 'Believe the impossible. Discover the incredible.' We suggest you do the same and get yourself to the premiere and the cinema for a journey you won't soon forget.

Eric Prydz Joins Virgin Records; Home To Dance Music Elite David Guetta And Swedish House Mafia

Eric Prydz after signing to EMI Music’s Virgin Records.

EMI Music is delighted to announce a new signing to Virgin Records – Swedish superstar DJ and producer Eric Prydz.  Eric Prydz is the first artist to join Virgin Records since Nick Burgess was appointed VP A&R for the label earlier this month by Miles Leonard, President Parlophone and Virgin A&R Labels.

Eric Prydz is one of the most successful DJs and producers in dance music. He has released a number of huge hit singles including ‘Proper Education’ and ‘Pjanoo’, which both reached number two in the UK, and the number one hit ‘Call On Me’. Eric has also built up a strong catalogue of music and a huge following via his Pryda label releases. Last weekend his ‘EPIC’ show was attended by 11,000 people at Alexandra Palace in London where Jason Ellis, Director of A&R at Virgin Records, and Miles Leonard signed him to Virgin.

Eric Prydz said: “I am very excited to finally be back with EMI UK! They were my first home back in 1999/2000 when I was signed to Parlophone/Regal. EMI has been very supportive over the years, even though I have been signed to other labels, there are not many of my UK or Ibiza shows where Jason Ellis hasn't attended! To an artist, it is vital to find a label that understands what you do, and what you want to accomplish, I am now sure that I have finally found just that with Virgin.”

Jason Ellis said: “We’re delighted to welcome Eric to the label, given his undisputed standing as one of the best producers of his generation. With his stunning live show now in place and exciting new music on the way, we’re thrilled about helping develop the next phase of Eric’s career.”

The addition of Eric Prydz to the Virgin roster builds on EMI Music's leadership in dance music. EMI is home to artists including David Guetta, deadmau5, Swedish House Mafia, The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, The Japanese Popstars and now Eric Prydz.  2011 has also seen the launch of the hugely successful She Can DJ campaign which will see forthcoming projects from Minx and Alison Wonderland in 2012.

In the 12 months to the end of November 2011 23.2% of dance tracks and 21.4% of all dance albums were released by EMI in the UK. EMI was also the market leader in single artist dance albums with a 32.4% share according to the UK Official Charts Company data.

Woman’s Day Miss Country Girl Australia; Winner Belinda Adams Announced, by Eva Rinaldi

It was a talent competition with a difference - Miss Country Girl, and the 30 contestants took to the sea cruising around Darling Harbour. A few hours later and wonderfully talented winner - Belinda Adams emerged as the victor.

Belinda Adams was transformed from country girl to super-model as she was crowned Woman’s Day Miss Country Girl Australia Monday in Sydney Harbour on board the Bella Vista cruise ship. The 14-year old from Bendigo in Victoria stood out from the stunning list of finalists.

In the hope to follow in the footsteps of well-known models such as Jennifer Hawkins, Miranda Kerr, Samantha Harris, Rachael Finch and Jessica Farrell all placing their proud country birthplaces back on the Aussie map, Belinda has won a modeling contract with Chic Management and will now appear in a four-page fashion spread in Woman’s Day magazine.

Belinda is a student and and lives on a cattle farm in Naneela, near Bendigo with a population of just 300 people.

Director of Woman's Day Miss Country Girl Australia Katie Jones said: "I am so proud of all the 2011 national finalists. What a fantastic evening! A huge congratulations to our gorgeous 2011 Woman's Day Miss Country Girl Australia winner Belinda Adams who is a great representative for all country girls across Australia. She grew up and lives on a cattle farm near Bendigo and is now signed next to Miranda Kerr with Chic Management. Belinda has huge international potential and has the whole package - she is definitely a face to watch out for."

Karlee O'Donnell reigning Miss Country Girl Australia, handed over her title to Belinda in front of more than 300 guests. Over 2000 young aspiring models from regional Australia competed in a regional road-show for this prestigious event, all vying for a position in the National Finals held last night. Australia’s Next Top Model, Josh Flinn hosted the cocktail style event that saw the 30 National finalists appear in a stunning Forever New fashion parade accompanied with a performance by McKenzie Comer. The regional models then featured in a swimwear parade sponsored by Seafolly Australia followed by a parade in evening gowns.

This unique competition is the brainchild of country girl Katie Jones from Delungra in North West NSW. Katie’s vision was to provide a platform for country girls to connect with industry professionals and realise their modeling dreams. Each year since 2009, thousands of girls have registered on-line to participate in the regional workshops and preliminary finals.

Katie had already assembled a powerful support team of fashion heavyweights starting with the agency Chic Management. The team at Chic immediately saw the power of this concept and helped Katie take the competition to a new level. The competition has come of age with media heavyweight Woman’s Day taking up the lead sponsor role.

Well done to all involved with the event.

George Clooney Hollywood Star To Speak In Sydney Australia Next Week, by Eva Rinaldi

He's one of the hottest actors in the world, right up there with Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Tom Cruise, Samuel L. Jackson and Australia's own Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman. Some will argue he is the hottest.

Whatever the case and how you rank Mr Clooney, he is very successful and we've also learned he's quite the humanitarian and astute businessman.

For his outstanding work as an actor, he has received two Golden Globe Awards and an Academy Award. Clooney is also noted for his social activism and has served as one of the United Nations Messengers of Peace since January 31, 2008.

Clooney, adding to his ultra impressive accolades, is tipped to win the Best Actor Oscar for his latest film, The Descendants.

The majority of media think 2001 was a stand out year for Clooney, at least for commercial success in film. His fame skyrocked that year with the release of his biggest commercial success, Ocean's Eleven, the first of a profitable film trilogy, a remake of the movie from 1960 with the members of The Rat Pack with Frank Sinatra as Danny Ocean. Stealing from a casino is pretty cool, and Clooney pulls it off beautifully.

Down under (and most of the world) just loves George, so its little wonder there's a considerable ticket price attached to enjoying his 'An Exclusive Audience with George Clooney'. Some tickets are apparently selling for up to $1100 AUD (no misprint).

So, just how much moolah for tickets for the man who needs no introduction? That depends upon who you speak to - think $1000, at least at this stage of the game.

We've obtained some media blurb from International Events - a speakers event arm of Max Markson's Markson Sparks!, and it reads like this:

An Exclusive Audience with George Clooney

George Clooney is a two time Golden Globe Award and Academy Award winning actor, presenter, director, producer and screenwriter who‘s made over forty films. In 2007, George cofounded the Darfus aid organisation Not On Our Watch and began serving as a United Nations Messenger of Peace, receiving a UN Summit Peace Award with fellow actor Don Cheadle.

For the last five years, George Clooney has been focused on leveraging his celebrity to get people to care for something mor important that celebrity - in particular the issues of Southern Sudan. His last project is the Satellite Sentinel Project (SSP) which provides and early warning system to deter mass atrocities by focusing world attention and generation rapid responses on human rights and human security concerns.

In a rare public appearance, George will discuss how collaboration, negotiation and compromise have been critical to his success in business and his humanitarian work.  Clooney will discuss how we all use our circle of influence and personal power to make a difference to the issues that matter in our professional and personal lives. This is not to be missed - a true bucket list opportunity!

The lunch time event will be held on December 12th 2011 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.12 noon lunch will be followed by a photograph with Mr. Clooney and the event will culminate with a talk from 1.30pm - 2.30pm ‘The Power of Collaboration‘, including a question and answer session moderated by Ellen Fanning.

Ticket Information:
Tickets are priced at $1100 in GST or $11,000 for a table of ten, including a two course lunch a photo with George Clooney.

Only 100 guests on 10 tables of 10 will be able to attend so book now to guarantee your seat!

Dates and Times:
December 12th, 2011
Location: Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour

The Late News...

We understand that at this stage no media is invited to the event. Will Mr Markson and the powers that be change their mind in the coming days, should they see enough benefit in working with and / or collaborating with a range of Australian media companies (to raise awareness and to help sell more tickets?)  Or, will Max and friends go it alone, believing that they will get the numbers they require make money on Clooney's exclusive speaking engagement in 'Sin City' Sydney? Time will no doubt tell. Yes, we're interested to attend of course, and talk about a positive news story.

Mr Clooney kindly shared some of his thoughts with news media recently regarding the working lives of his fellow actors, and this is gold...

"I cut tobacco for a living in Kentucky. That was hard work. I sold insurance door-to-door. That's hard work. Acting is not hard work.

"I've known a tremendous number of talented actors who didn't get opportunities. It's long hours, but nobody wants to hear you complain."

"I remember I was selling women's shoes at a department store, which is a lousy job."

In the interview with Hollywood Reporter magazine, he added: "I don't find (acting) difficult. I find it challenging, and sometimes I'm very bad at it, but I don't find it hard."

Will George's Main Squeeze Come Down Under Too?

That's the million dollar question. If you didn't already know, George has been hanging out with former WWE Diva Superstar Stacy Keibler (once known by such colourful names as "Miss Hancock" and "The Legs of the WWE" (because of her extremely long legs). Keibler was the only WWE Diva who ranked many times in the listed of Maxim's Hot 100. Either way, Ms Keibler nor Mr Clooney need not play second fiddle to anyone, so if they come to Australia together, it will of course be a huge bonus to media and fans.

Thanks to our friends at E! we learned the following. Ms K opened right up to the celebrity media heavyweight: "We're going to be having a lot of friends and family going together this year, so it will be fun" speaking about a Yuletide vacation with her parents—which, for the first time, will be feauturing a very special guest appearance by her Oscar-winning boyfriend. It's top secret if any of the family clan will be visiting Australia.

No word yet if Clooney will be making any public appearances, but you can bet he will be welcomed with open arms if he does.

George, thank you for visiting Sydney, Australia, and we hope to cross paths with you soon one way or another, and with the AussieWood - Hollywood connection, we think we've got a pretty good chance. You have to back yourself in life and business, and that's exactly what we're doing.

Quotes by George Clooney...

After doing One Fine Day and playing a pediatrician on ER, I'll never have kids. I'm going to have a vasectomy.

America can't beat anyone anymore.

As you get older and ease your way into being a character actor you have to be comfortable with where you are in life and career, and I'm very comfortable with what I'm doing - working on projects I'm proud of.

But I'm kind of comfortable with getting older because it's better than the other option, which is being dead. So I'll take getting older.

I bought a piano once because I had the dream of playing As Time Goes By as some girl's leaning on it drinking a martini. Great image. But none of it worked out. I can't even play Chopsticks. But I've got a nice piano at my house!

I don't believe in happy endings, but I do believe in happy travels, because ultimately, you die at a very young age, or you live long enough to watch your friends die. It's a mean thing, life.

Hard Rock Cafe Darling Harbour Media And Celebs Event; Sydney, Australia, By Eva Rinaldi

The world famous Hard Rock Cafe has returned to 'Sin City' Sydney with a vengeance, based on tonight's launch event at the brand new Darling Harbour venue.

Hard Rock put on quite a show and rolled out the celebrities and live music including: Hamish Dodds, Matt Sorum, Dave Rich, DJ Lethal, Stan Walker, Angry Anderson, L Huntly, Sarah McLoed, Hamish Rosser, Altiyan Childs, Kris Peterson and Stim McLean. Most of them had turns smashing guitars, which is a trademark of opening new Hard Rock Cafes.

We all know that the cost of living and setting up a business in Sydney is considerable, but Hard Rock is certain their latest Australian venture will be a smashing (as in guitar) success. Sydney is one of the busiest markets anywhere globally for the Hard Rock Cafe, says the global chief of the music-themed burgers and ribs franchise.

Hamish Dodds, prez and chief exec of Hard Rock International, advised staffing costs down under in Australia make Hard Rock's Sydney operations expensive compared with other global locations, and they are comparing to its other 172 venues which include cafes, hotels and even land based casinos. Yes, casinos, but Australia's The Star and Crown Casino need not worry, as they have no plans for gaming in Australia - at least not any they are talking about.

Hard Rock International is owned by the well known and respected Seminole American Indian tribe, which purchased the global Hard Rock brand in 2007 after successfully running two Hard Rock hotel and casino operations in Florida in the U.S.

"For us this is an English-speaking country and people understand the history of rock," Mr Dodds said in Sydney on Tuesday ahead of the grand opening of the 500-seat venue in the Darling Harbour entertainment hotbed.

"Part of the downside of this market is it's a mature economy - staffing costs in this market are very different to what we would experience in India.

"I would say the price mark-up here is about 50 per cent higher than the US - this is probably one of the most expensive markets we have in our portfolio."

Mr Dodds advised the Sydney Hard Rock Cafe was priced at a similar level to comparable restaurants in the area and he expected business to be brisk, averaging between 300 to 700 main meals a day.

Sydney would be among the top ten performers in the global network, he said, and among the top five of franchised outlets.

Tonight signified a return to Sydney for the Hard Rock franchise, which closed its previous venue in East Sydney in 2007.

Mr Dodds said Hard Rock had returned to Sydney with a revised and smarter strategy.

He said the former business was in a great location for the 1980s when the brand was fresh and people would go to the Hard Rock Cafe.

"Copycats harmed Hard Rock's own business and the market changed to the point where we found ourselves in a B minus location and to a degree we lost a bit of relevance", Mr Dodds said.

The firm bought back its Sydney franchise in 2007 and has been revived by director and franchise holder Lennie Huntly, former GM of the Sydney business during the 90s.

Mr Huntly, who also holds the franchise for the Hard Rock Cafe in Surfers Paradise, said he had been thinking about re-opening a Sydney Hard Rock Cafe since the last one closed.

The waterfront location and views over Darling Harbour are a huge plus and soon a live music stage and 600-person music area will be rocking and rolling.

"We are focused on not only being about lunch and dinner," he said.

Mr Huntly also has the rights to open venues in Melbourne, Cairns and Perth. Melbourne's former venue closed in 2007, but that doesn't mean it will return with a hit.

Well done to the good folks at Hard Rock Cafe and we look forward to meeting up with the great guys and girls there again soon. Rock on.
