KillRockStar Big Dog Entertainment Proudly Present: Gin Blossoms Australian Tour 2013

Big Dog Entertainment are proud to present platinum selling, US pop rockers Gin Blossoms on their first ever Australian tour.

Fuelled by mega-hits including Hey Jealousy, Found Out About You and from the Empire Records movie soundtrack Til I Hear It From You, Tempe Arizona quintet Gin Blossoms completed the classic crossover from college-circuit heroes to multi-platinum album sellers in the 1990's. Most recently featuring on the massive Summerland Tour in the US with the likes of Everclear, Sugar Ray, LIT and Marcy Playground, Gin Blossoms will rock Australian audiences live for the very first time in 2013.

After their inception in 1987 Gin Blossom's hometown following in Tempe, Arizona grew quickly as the band earned a deserved reputation as a killer live act. Readers of the Phoenix New Times chose them as the city's best rock band qualifying them to play at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas in March, 1989. Later that year, College Music Journal dubbed them the "Best Unsigned Band in America" and invited them to play MTV's New Music Awards in New York City.

Major label interest quickly followed, their initial releases on A&M Records included Up and Crumbling in 1991 and the multi-platinum selling New Miserable Experience in 1992 featuring the single, Hey Jealousy which peaked at #25 on Billboard Hot 100. Four more singles followed Mrs. Rita, Found Out About You, Allison Road and Until I Fall Away. With NME having sold nearly 3 million copies in the US alone, the Gin Blossoms became a band to be reckoned with.

In 1995 the band founded further widespread acclaim with the single Til I Hear It From You which was included on the soundtrack to the classic coming-of-age film Empire Records. Shooting into the number 11 spot on the Billboard Hottest 100, Billboard Magazine called the single "the closest thing to a perfect pop song to hit radio in recent memory," and commented on its "breezy and wonderfully infectious melody, the boy-needs-girl lyrics, and the earnest execution."

Congratulations I'm Sorry, which was released in 1996, was the Blossom's final original album of the decade bringing them two more hits … Follow You Down which spent ten weeks in the Top Ten and As Long As It Matters which earned the group a Grammy nomination for "Best Performance by a Duo or Group." The album debuted in Billboard's Top Ten and a year of touring helped put the record past 1,500,000 units sold.

The group then took a lengthy hiatus before embarking on an eighty-date US tour in 2002. “We have not stopped touring 100+ shows a year since December of 2001. Playing live gives us the most pleasure, this much we all agree” says Robin Wilson. 2006 saw the release of Major Lodge Victory which captured two more top 40 singles Learning The Hard Way and Long Time Gone. Billboard called the album “an effortless triumph of melodic perfection.” Their most recent album, 2010 No Chocolate Cake, again landed Gin’s back on the singles chart with Miss Disarray and the album charted to # 1 on Amazon. Now in Summer 2013 Gin Blossoms will bringing their perfect pop to fans in Australia for the very first time for what is sure to be a run of memorable shows in Melbourne, Brisbane Sydney and Perth.

Benicio Del Toro attends red carpet movie premier; Event Cinemas, Sydney, Australia...

Savages enjoyed its red carpet premiere in Sydney, Australia tonight.

Savages star Benicio Del Toro told media agency AAP that meeting real ex-drug cartel members was a similar feeling to climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

"You go in strapped and you go in protected in some ways but you don't want to get too goofy or something like that, or you might fall off the bridge. Or you might just end up chopped liver," Del Toro told the AAP agency..

Del Toro, who's in Australia to promote Savages, plays nasty Mexican cartel enforcer Lado in the movie.

It's been reported that Del Toro was the one who took director Oliver Stone to Mexico to meet some "heavies" - a piece of news he found surprising.

"I was the one with the connections?" he says.

"That's people that believe the characters that I play.

"No, actually we went down to Mexico, but I wasn't the one with the connections."

In any event the meeting was terrifying but invaluable to him and the cast.

"We met some people down there (in Mexico), we met some people in LA (Los Angeles) too, on both sides of this war on drugs, and it was very interesting, very informative for the preparation of the characters," he told AAP.

ABOUT SAVAGES:

Laguna Beach entrepreneurs Ben (Taylor-Johnson), a peaceful and charitable Buddhist, and his closest friend Chon (Kitsch), a former Navy SEAL and ex-mercenary, run a lucrative, homegrown industry—raising some of the best marijuana ever developed.  They also share a one-of-a-kind love with the extraordinary beauty Ophelia (Lively).  Life is idyllic in their Southern California town…until the Mexican Baja Cartel decides to move in and demands that the trio partners with them.

When the merciless head of the BC, Elena (Hayek), and her brutal enforcer, Lado (Del Toro), underestimate the unbreakable bond among these three friends, Ben and Chon—with the reluctant, slippery assistance of a dirty DEA agent (Travolta)—wage a seemingly unwinnable war against the cartel.  And so begins a series of increasingly vicious ploys and manoeuvres in a high stakes, savage battle of wills.

SAVE YOUR LEGS! PADS UP FOR A BIG INNINGS WITH FIRST FULL TRAILER AND INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE

Melbourne, 9 October 2012 – The first full length trailer for Australian comedy SAVE YOUR LEGS! has been released ahead of its first international screenings. SAVE YOUR LEGS! will have its international premiere in front of a sold out audience at the London Film Festival this week before screening later in the month at the Mumbai Film Festival. With English and Indian audiences both being cricket crazy, the film is sure to come home with runs on the board.

Producer Robyn Kershaw commented “Much like the film, our trailer is a hearty mix of comedy and the life-force inherent in India and in cricket lovers - for those who like to watch or play. Along the way we take a glimpse at the secret world of men - their thoughts about women, about children and each other”.

SAVE YOUR LEGS! will release on January 24th for the Australia Day long weekend, in the heart of the cricket season. The film will release simultaneously at metropolitan and regional locations around the country to ensure backyard cricketers everywhere will get the chance to have fun in cinemas on our nation’s day of celebration.

SAVE YOUR LEGS! is inspired by true events - a group of men who took a chance and won at life-long friendships. The cast includes Stephen Curry (The Castle, The Cup), Brendan Cowell (Beneath Hill 60, Noise) Damon Gameau (Balibo, Underbelly) and Bollywood beauty Pallavi Sharda. The film was directed by Boyd Hicklin and produced by Robyn Kershaw and Nick Batzias and written by Brendan Cowell.

MIA WASIKOWSKA AND ADAM DRIVER BEGIN SHOOTING TRACKS WITH DIRECTOR JOHN CURRAN IN AUSTRALIA

Adelaide: Principal photography commences in Australia today on feature drama TRACKS, based on the inspirational true story of intrepid traveller and writer Robyn Davidson’s solo trek from Alice Springs through 2700km of sprawling Australian desert to the Indian Ocean, accompanied only by her loyal dog and four unpredictable camels. This epic and remarkable journey into one of the world's last great wildernesses, which was captured by charismatic National Geographic photographer Rick Smolan, taught Robyn to do the impossible, to appreciate the joy of true solitude and that sometimes we have to detach from the world to feel connected to it.

Tracks stars the internationally acclaimed Australian actress Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre, The Kids Are Alright, Alice in Wonderland) as Robyn Davidson and rapidly rising star Adam Driver (HBO’s Emmy nominated Girls, Frances Ha, Lincoln, Inside Llewyn Davis) as Rick Smolan.

Tracks is directed by the esteemed John Curran (The Painted Veil, We Don’t Live Here Anymore, Praise), produced by Oscar® winners Emile Sherman and Iain Canning of See-Saw Films (The King’s Speech, Shame, Oranges and Sunshine) and co-produced by AFI award-winning producer Julie Ryan (Red Dog, Ten Canoes).

Tracks is based on Robyn Davidson’s eponymous award winning and best selling book. Translated into twenty languages for publication, Tracks has now been adapted for the screen by Marion Nelson and John Curran. Director of Photography is Cannes Camera D’Or and Independent Spirit Award winning cinematographer Mandy Walker ASC ACS (Australia, Lantana).

Robyn Davidson says of her story being translated to the screen ‘What a strange experience it is to see one's own account morphed into another form. I could not be more pleased with the people involved in conceiving this new avatar. Emile and Iain, unique among producers I think, John, who sails as close to the book as he can without compromising his own ship, and of course, Mia, whose talent gave me goose bumps when I watched In Treatment, and who is as lovely as she is gifted.’

'This is one of the great Australian stories that begs to be adapted for the big screen. Robyn undertakes such an epic journey, doing what many of us wish we had the courage to do - to cast off the shackles of our lives, going as far away as possible from the noise of civilisation, and to find out how we would manage truly alone. We couldn’t be happier to have such strong casting in Mia Wasikowska and Adam Driver, playing the roles of two such intriguing, resolute and adventurous characters.’ said producers Emile Sherman and Iain Canning.

Set against one of the wildest and most breathtaking backdrops on the planet, Tracks will be filmed on location across South Australia and The Northern Territory.

Tracks is a See-Saw Films production, with investment from Screen Australia, Screen NSW, South Australian Film Corporation, Deluxe and Cross City Sales.

International Sales are being handled by HanWay, with distribution including Transmission Films and Momentum Pictures in Australia and the UK respectively.

UNIVERSAL PICTURES AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCE FILMING OF THE NEW ARENA PRODUCTION OF JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

AFTER CRITICS HAIL THE OPENING OF ITS RUN
AN OVERWHELMING SUCCESS

IN AUSTRALIAN CINEMAS FROM NOVEMBER 8

“Lloyd Webber’s new generation of superstars hits all the right notes.”
The Times

“A work of conceptual genius”
Daily Telegraph

“Restored to its heavy metal rock origins.”
The Independent

“An almighty success!” Daily Star Sunday

“Blows away tradition.” Daily Mail

Following a triumphant opening weekend at London’s 02 Arena, Universal Pictures Australia is delighted to announce that the 21st century re-invention of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” will be filmed and shown in selected cinemas worldwide, including Australian screens from November 8, 2012 for one week only.
Andrew Lloyd Webber said:  "I have waited 42 years for Jesus Christ Superstar to play arenas in the UK, and it is great to finally see the show as it was originally intended, as an arena rock opera. I’m thrilled that Universal will be filming the new arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar for cinema release, which allows us to capture this amazing production and share it with the world!”
The 21-date arena tour, the first ever in the UK, features a star-studded line-up which includes award-winning musical comedian, Australia’s own Tim Minchin – also the co-writer of West End smash musical Matilda – in the role of ‘Judas Iscariot’; pop icon and former Spice Girl Melanie C as ‘Mary Magdalene’; radio DJ Chris Moyles in his stage debut as ‘King Herod’; and the winner of the UK’s primetime ITV show ‘Superstar’, Ben Forster, who was chosen by the British public to take on the title role of ‘Jesus’.
An award-winning creative team has been assembled to transform this legendary rock musical into a unique, contemporary, state-of-the-art spectacular. Director Laurence Connor, known for his work on the 25th anniversary performances and concerts for Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera, works alongside Mark Fisher, the acclaimed world-leading set designer responsible for the staging of the Diamond Jubilee music concert in front of Buckingham Palace, and Patrick Woodroffe who worked on the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, to create a conceptual masterpiece.
The filmed event will be screened on over sixty screens in Australia from November 8, 2012 for one week only.
“Jesus Christ Superstar” is a worldwide phenomenon, portraying the story of the last seven days of Christ leading up to his crucifixion as seen through the eyes of ‘Judas Iscariot’, and featuring hit songs such as ‘Superstar’, ‘I Don’t Know How To Love Him’, ‘Heaven On Their Minds’ and ‘Hosanna’.  Over 40 different cast recordings have been released in 19 different languages.
The first production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” was a US arena tour in 1971. It then debuted on Broadway, and, in 1972, UK fans finally got their chance to see this landmark show when it arrived at London’s Palace Theatre – its run of eight years and over 3,000 performances smashed all box office records. Since then, Jesus Christ Superstar has rarely left the stage, with professional productions in 42 countries around the world and with around 300 amateur productions officially licensed each year.
