Sydney stars come out in force for Sony Foundation's Youth Cancer campaign

Sydney stars come out in force for Sony Foundation's Youth Cancer campaign; Wharf4Ward raises money for cancer...

More than 800 guests attended the Wharf4Ward lunch today to raise much needed money for 'You Can', a national fundraising and awareness campaign set up by Sony Foundation and CanTeen to raise much-needed funds for specialised youth cancer care and services around the country.

Fresh off the plane from London, the fabulous Sapphires star Jessica Mauboy will be joining in the festivities and performed in front of the who's who of Sydney society down at Woolloomooloo Wharf and its six world-class restaurants.

The lunch raises money for You Can, a national fundraising and awareness campaign set up by Sony Foundation and CanTeen to raise much-needed funds for specialised youth cancer care and services around the country.

Guests enjoyed a spectacular afternoon of entertainment from national and international Sony music artists including Jessica Mauboy, Hot Chelle Rae, Justice Crew, and Timomatic, as well as a performance from the X Factor finalists.

A range of hosts from each major network, which all support Sony Foundation as corporate partners, was involved in the lunch. Nine Network's Peter Overton, Georgie Gardner and Richard Wilkins and Network Ten's Natarsha Belling and Hamish McDonald tooks part in day.

The guest list included Ronan Keating, Charlotte Dawson, Laura Dundovic, James Kerley, Kerri-Ann Kennerly, Nikki Phillips, Didier Cohen and Karl Stefanovic.

"This sell-out event has become one of the hottest tickets on Sydney's calendar. Not only is it fabulously fun, it also raises much needed funds for the 'forgotten generation' of cancer sufferers - teenagers and young adults. Thanks to the success of past Sony Foundation Wharf4Ward lunches, You Can is able to provide age-appropriate support and care for young cancer patients who previously have fallen into a gap in our health care system. Last year, we raised $550,000 for youth cancer and we are hoping to beat that total in 2012," said Sony Foundation CEO Sophie Ryan.

Currently, in Australia, the gap between paediatric and adult cancer care means teenagers and young adults rarely receive specialised treatment which in turn impacts their survival rates. 'You Can' was established to address the gap in the health care system and to build specialised youth cancer services.

The best part about 'You Can' is that everyone can get help out without even donating a single cent - it's as simple as recycling your old mobile phone. Sony Foundation has partnered with a recycling company to swap old mobile phones for funds. Since the campaign was launched in 2010, more than 450,000 phones have been donated and recycled and Australia's first youth cancer centre is nearing completion at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth.

CARMEN SMITH & DIANA ROUVAS - TWO VOICES, ONE FRIENDSHIP ANNOUNCE THREE EXTRA SYDNEY SHOWS

Due to popular demand Carmen Smith and Diana Rouvas have added three more Sydney shows to their ‘Two Voices’ tour. After sell-out performances across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide and hot off the back of their impressive appearances on the television smash hit series The Voice, Carmen and Diana will share the stage yet again to perform three more intimate acoustic shows in Sydney. Tickets are on sale now through various outlets.

The talented duo will play in Cronulla, Coogee and Bulli where audiences will have the chance to hear every nuance of the girls’ voices. Carmen and Diana will perform separate acoustic sets before coming together for an encore set sure to impress.

Carmen is a versatile and engaging act who not only writes, produces, dances and performs her own material but she has done the same for many other successful Aussie artists. Her vocals have been featured on the records of Diesel and Thirsty Merc in addition to Guy Sebastian, and she has just released her brand new single ‘They Don’t Know Me’ on iTunes.

Diana has been singing the Sydney soul circuit for years now. The pint-sized singer with a dynamite voice loves playing late-night venues and bars to small audiences who appreciate the finer points of musicianship and the late hum and buzz of an after-hours lifestyle.

The two singers had only heard of one another through mutual friends - when they finally met on the set of The Voice it was like two old friends coming together. “It was like I had known her for years. I started singing one of her songs to her from her EP from a few years back – she flipped!” says Carmen. The feeling was mutual – Diana is a self-confessed massive fan of Carmen, a long time go-to girl for vocals and a strong independent artist.

Once on The Voice, Carmen and Diana both smashed it and were favourites of Team Joel and Team Keith. Although neither were victorious, the raw talent of both girls was recognised by Aussie audiences who haven’t forgotten about these girls in a hurry. What can audiences expect from these shows? “A whole lot of heart and soul,” say Carmen and Diana.
Tickets on sale now!

ATA ALLSTAR ARTISTS PRESENTS The Long-Awaited Australian Tour THE HOLLIES 50th Anniversary Tour

U.K's legendary group The Hollies have been responsible for a remarkably varied and intriguing catalogue of music. What’s more, this is one of the very few bands who have retained their status, dignity and cool - never descending to the revival package circuit, yet still regularly selling out major venues all over the world in their own right. The live performances is The Hollies pure and simple – or complex and sophisticated - as the mood takes them. Wistful vocal harmonies or sheer raw musical power - each song is spectactacularly showcased by its own brilliant light show. On stage, their five decades of music is as always driven by Bobby Elliott’s powerful drumming and punctuated by Tony Hick’s incisive narrative - the inside story on how The Hollies classic recordings were created, occasionally seasoned with the odd morsel of backstage gossip. The Hollies pioneered the use of the three-way vocal harmony in Pop Music.
The innovative Pop or hard-edged Rock - through to their Power Anthems - The Hollies do it all - and they do it with style and panache. The Hollies appeared on the BBC’s first "Top of the Pops" on New Years Day 1964, along with The Stones, Dusty Springfield and The Beatles. Unusual instrumentation was often used during the production of their records - including tubular bells, a celesta, glockenspiel and bagpipes. "Carrie Anne" is the first hit record to feature real steel drums.
Cast aside any prejudices that you may have about Rock‘n’Pop being the domain of youngsters, The Hollies still hack it in a major way. Their 60's hits have included "We’re Through", "I’m Alive", "I Can’t Let Go", "Bus Stop", "Stop Stop Stop", "Carrie Anne", and many others. The hits kept coming under this new line up, including signature songs "He Ain’t Heavy, He's My Brother" and "I Can’t Tell The Bottom From The Top". Even after founding member Allan Clarke left the group in 1971 (he would return in 1973), The Hollies enjoyed another major hit with "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress". It was also No. I in the American Billboard charts. "The Air That I Breathe" was a major hit in 1974, reaching No. 2 in the UK charts.

In celebration of their five decades of success, The Hollies will be touring Australia in February 2013, proudly presented by ATA AllStar Artists. To witness originals - guitarist and vocalist Tony Hicks and drummer Bobby Elliott with Peter Howarth, Ray Stiles, Steve Lauri and Ian Parker - the live performance is pure Hollies: trademark harmonies coupled with sheer musical prowess - their anthems promises to bring the concerts to a crescendo and well-deserved recognition - winning over new generations of fans.

"The Hollies created some of the greatest songs of our time"

Psy Gangnam Style performs at Marquee, The Star, Sydney, Australia

Korean rap music sensation Psy (Park Jae-Sang) performed at Sydney's famous Marquee nightclub at midnight last night.

It was obvious one or two VIP's and high rollers were in town, with police having a strong presence in and around the one time casino - now more an integrated entertainment and gaming hub, complete with nightclubs and entertainment attractions a plenty.

The only thing - person Marquee Sydney and The Star was missing was Psy, and now that's complete how will they top that!  We hear maybe with KISS, The Rolling Stones and / or Blondie and Pink, but that's just rumour at this stage... but do expect at least one of those big time acts to follow in Psy's footsteps.

The music video for "Gangnam Style" is the most viewed K-pop video on YouTube, and also the most "liked" video on the site. Published on July 15, 2012, the video has over 480 million views, and more than 4.1 million "likes." Psy has appeared on numerous television programs, including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Extra, Good Sunday: X-Man, The Golden Fishery, The Today Show, Saturday Night Live and Sunrise.

Stay tuned and don't change your dial for more hot news on Psy and more of the world's top entertainment attractions.
