Warrior Sydney Premiere Rough And Ready, by Eva Rinaldi - 16th October 2011

Warrior enjoyed it's Sydney, Australia premiere tonight in what was a rough and ready affair at Sydney's Event Cinemas, George Street.

The movie plot goes like this... The youngest son (Tom Hardy) of an alcoholic former boxer (Nick Nolte) returns home, where he's trained up by his old man for competition in a MMA tourney...a journey that puts the fighter on a collision with his older brother (Joel Edgerton). It's the fight of a lifetime for the two brothers, and as try to overcome the fallout from their broken family. An ex-Marine haunted by a tragic past, Tommy Riordan, returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh and gets his dads, a recovered alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for an MMA tournament awarding the biggest purse in the history of the brutal sport. As Tommy progresses towards the title prize, his brother, Brendan, a former MMA fighter unable to make ends meet as a public school teacher, returns to the amateur ring to provide for his family. Medical attention, threats and violence are all par for the course, as one might expect in this brutal version of the fighting world. Even though years have passed, past betrayals and many bad deeds keep Brendan bitterly estranged from both Tommy and his father. But when Brendan's unlikely rise as an underdog sets him on a deadly course with Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront the situation that tore them apart, all the while fighting the most intense, winner-takes-all battle of their lives.

In the US Warrior was released via Lions Gate Entertainment.

If you like a bit of biffo, as most Australian audiences do, this is for you. Fans of MMA, wrestling, boxing, and the action genre in general, will all go home happy having seen this flick.

News Update...

Edgerton has been cast as Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's 2012 remake of The Great Gatsby. Edgerton enjoys quite a bit of face time with Leonardo DiCaprio, both on and off set. The Great Gatsby is being filmed at Fox Studios, Moore Park, in Sydney.

Parramatta Westfield was packed and young ladies (and a couple of young men) could be heard screaming and yelling, as Jason Derulo hit the stage.

The ultra talented and popular Derulo is a 16 multi-platinum singer - songwriter. The heartthrob performed some of his most popular numbers including It Girl, Don’t Wanna Go Home and In My Head.

You can be the Westfield powers that be were happy to have the teen idol showcased at Parramatta. Parra's centre manager, Stuart Elder, told the press he was very excited to have Derulo.

"We are very excited to be welcoming Jason Derulo to Westfield Parramatta as part of our commitment to providing great entertainment for our customers."

"We’ve had an overwhelming response from our Facebook fans to news of Jason’s appearance in our centre, so we expect big crowds on Sunday."

If you didn't know, Derulo leaped into the music biz last year with his self-titled album, selling about 850,000 globally.

This year he's enjoyed three top 10 hits and a host of awards and commendations including 2011 BMI Songwriter of the Year award. Make no mistake, this young man is on a mission.

The 22 year old's second album, Future History, is set to make history, which is likely Derulo's plan.

Future History will showcased his two hot current numbers, Don’t Wanna Go Home and It Girl. I.G is enjoying being the #3 single down under.

Stevie Wonder And Elton John Coming To The Star Lyric Theatre - 13th October 2011

Sydney’s hip, revamped casino and entertainment complex, The Star (formally The Star), Sydney's casino that used to get a lot of mixed press, is now shining bright and the media and public at large have fallen back in love with the historic landmark. Well, most of the public and media, but you will always have the crowd with a great dislike of anything gambling.

Make no mistake, The Star is all about entertainment. Yes, there is gambling also, but how about the list of events and celebrities The Star and its sister, the Lyric Theatre, are hosting.

Stevie Wonder and Elton John may be coming to The Star's Lyric Theatre in a few short weeks, but Leonardo DiCaprio is already there (occupying an entire floor). Leo's in Sydney to shoot The Great Gatsby, so its handy for him, only having to hike over to Moore Park Fox Studios. In free time Leo gets to spend some time with models including Kendal Schuler.

Musical genius Stevie Wonder (Stevland Hardaway Morris) is to hold a one-off concert on 26th October, and Elton John won't be far behind Stevie, doing The Lyric on the 26th and 27th October.

The Lyric promotes itself and offering intimate concert, and since it only seats 2,000 patrons at a time, that's a fair assessment. The venue is extremely comfortable, and its all included in the price, as you might have guessed.

Wonder's ticket prices are in the range of $255 to $455 per ticket, and Mr John's at $255 to $405.

Over Mr Wonder's amazing career he has sold over 100 million records worldwide and has earned 49 Top 40 singles and 32 number one singles.

His awards include 25 Grammy Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe (I Just Called To Say I Love You as seen in 'The Woman In Red' movie).

The event at the Lyric Theatre is Wonder's only Australian concert, so if you want to experience his musical genius up close you better dig into your budget.

The Star Welcomes Stevie Wonder for One Night Only

The Iconic Singer and Songwriter to Perform at The Star’s Lyric Theatre
Sydney’s new one-of-a-kind entertainment destination, The Star, has announced a special one-off concert by music icon Stevie Wonder on 26 October, 2011. Stevie will perform a single intimate concert in the 2,000 seat Lyric Theatre at The Star.

During his expansive career, Stevie Wonder has sold over 100 million records worldwide and has earned 49 Top 40 singles and 32 number one singles over the course of his career. Stevie Wonder has received 25 Grammy Awards, a prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for the song "I Just Called To Say I Love You" from the film "The Woman In Red."

Stevie Wonder is the latest global entertainer to confirm a performance at The Star, as part of its on-going opening celebrations. Elton John is also performing two sold out concerts in November.

The Star officially opened on 15 September 2011, revealing the first stage in an $870 million redevelopment and expansion including new bars, restaurants, a retail area, a café court and upscaled gaming facilities. Opening in late October 2011 is The Star’s new five-star lifestyle boutique hotel, The Darling, a 16 room spa, as well as New York chef David Chang’s Momofuku Seiobo restaurant, Adriano Zumbo’s patisserie and Chase Kojima’s contemporary Japanese restaurant, Sokyo.

Taylor Dayne, the American freestyle music, and smooth jazz artist from New York City, is currently loving her Australian tour

The Diva who enjoyed mainstream popularity in the 1980s is showing Australian audiences that she still has what it takes, as she does close to over a dozen Aussie venues this month.

Last night is was Selina's at the Coogee Bay Hotel, and tonight it will be Bankstown Sports Club, in Sydney's West.

Dayne will perform hits, including Tell It to My Heart, With Every Beat of My Heart, Prove Your Love, I’ll Be Your Shelter, Don’t Rush Me and many more. Her latest single, Facing a Miracle, was the official anthem of the Gay Games.

“You can shoot for the stars - and I think everybody should - but I remember having some very frustrating moments thinking ‘God, is it ever going to happen?’ ” she said.

“But from the minute Tell It to My Heart broke in Europe as a single - I remember I showed up at one store and there were 1000 kids dressed like me - I never looked back.”

Ms Dayne said her Aussie fans would not be disappointed when they came to see her.

"I have been performing for 23 years and I promise I will not come out looking like Taylor Dayne from 1988, but I will take my fans on a journey," she said. "It’s a soundtrack to their lives as much as mine."

Taylor Dayne Biography

Née Leslie Wunderman, Taylor Dayne was born March 7, 1962, in Long Island, New York. Having harbored an interest in singing from an early age, Taylor joined her first band, the new wave group Felony, after graduating high school.

While her nights were spent performing at New York City nightclubs, Taylor's days were consumed with the study of music theory and composition at college, as well as private operatic training with Juilliard master Maestro Carelli. Taylor later left Felony for another new wave band called The Next, but rapidly came to the realization that if her career were to be successful, it would have to be a solo mission.

The highly anticipated Big Day Out 2012 artist line-up has been revealed.

For months, rumours have spinning about the local and international artists pegged to perform at next year's massive annual festival.

Mel B Of Spice Girls Fame Signs On With Jenny Craig, by Eva Rinaldi - 10th October 2011

Mel B aka Melanie Brown has just been signed up as the new face of Jenny Craig (Australia and New Zealand).

Today at 10.30am Mel B, the top brass at Jenny Craig, and over a dozen news media enjoyed a healthy and delicious breakfast (and a media gig) at the Centennial Parklands function centre.

In the extremely unlikely event that you didn't know, Mel B is an English pop singer-songwriter, actress, author and television presenter. She is best known around the world as Scary Spice, one of the members of the girl group Spice Girls.

It's well know that brands around the world are often interested in signing up suitable celebrities to promote their wares, and on the surface it looks to be a great match with Jenny Craig being a leader in the weight loss industry for over 30 years, and Mel B recently off pregnancy, enjoying motherhood and looking to loose weight.

The international star told our table "I just love the breakfast. Jenny Craig is just right for me being a busy mum".

Mel B said on her eating "I was eating literally eating morning, noon and night, and its didn't matter what time. I was just eating. I was a house. I love my humps and bumps, but when a newspaper described my shape as the 'bootylicious, curvylicious, post-baby body of Melanie, I knew I had to do something. I had to get the eating under control".

Jenny Craig boss Amy Smith released in a media statement: "Mel told us she doesn't like dieting at all. She loves eating healthy foods and she is thrilled with the health snack options and the amount of fruit and vegetables she gets to eat. Jenny Craig's team of nutritionists and doctors have created a program especially for women like Mel who have recently given birth, that takes into consideration the nutrient levels needed for breastfeeding women", says Ms Smith.

Mel B said: "Life gets a bit crazy when you've got four daughters but it's important for us mums to live healthy and to be in good shape. Mums really need to take time for themselves and get to a place where they are happy with their body again. We should not put it off because we deserve more than that. I healthy happy mum equals a healthy happy family."

After breakfast Mel did some on site TV interviews, believed to be for Channel Seven, followed by a relaxed photo shoot in the lush green parklands. Apparently word must have spread around Sydney press circles, as after just minutes after going outside for the shoot a number of uninvited paparazzi showed up and started snapping away. Mel and her media team probably expected it, so its a good thing that the word is well and truly out about her new campaign with Jenny Craig.

Mel B looks great, so just imagine how hot she will look a few months into the Jenny Craig program. She acknowledge that media, the other former Spice Girls and everyone else will be watching her progress closely, and judging by today it appears UK pop queen is on set to achieve her diet goals. Will you achieve your dieting goals as summer sneaks up on you? Needless to say, you now know who to call, which we strongly suspect for the ideal in the first place.

The 2011 Australian Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards! are almost upon us.

Everyone is getting ready to hit the orange carpet at the mega event. It all takes place at the Sydney Entertainment Centre tonight. We've found out from our spies about a ton of great performers confirmed to take to the stage!

Joining Gold Coast teen idol and triple-nominee Cody Simpson will be ‘Aussie Idol’s’ Stan Walker, ‘X-Factor’ judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte, ‘Australia’s Got Talent’ winner Jack Vidgen, hip hop dance group Justice Crew and shuffle superstar Timomatic!

Even WWE’s outspoken CM Punk will taking to the stage, having caught a plane just for Australian fans (and viewers we suspect).

We also heard something about magician Cosentino to hit the stage.

Joining the impressive list of previously announced presenters - including Matt Preston, Guy Sebastian, Shannon Noll, Luke Jacobz, Bindi and Robert Irwin, Samantha Harris, Erin McNaught, Nathan Jolliffe and Tyler Atkins, Daniel MacPherson, Commando, Josh Thomas and Ellyse Perry - will be ‘Home And Away’ stars Samara Weaving, Rebecca Breeds, David Jones Roberts and Luke Mitchell.

Hosted by 'iCarly' stars Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Kress, Australia’s biggest slime fest is also in the works.

What's Your Number' sex comedy with Anna Faris wows, by Eva Rinaldi - 7th October 2011

What a year of raunch. Enter No Strings Attached (Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher) and then Friends with Benefits (Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis), now What's Your Number, another sexy and fun Hollywood comedy centered on a platonic relationship between two 20 year olds.

Anna Faris stars opposite Chris Evans, last seen on the big screen as Captain America. The two good lookers nurture their friendship, hang out in their underwear lots, and talks a great deal about the opposite sex.

Audiences soon will ponder how many sexual partners Faris' character Ally has enjoyed.

Faris, now 34, has become quite the go-to girl in Hollywood for roles requiring sexy and on the edge laughs.

The talented young lady told news media "It's important for me to appeal to the girls. Women want to see all kinds of women on screen, not just the really ambitious types we see a lot of, who are always trying to manage everything. We also need to see lost women, too. That's why I liked this role of Ally. She seemed real to me. She's messy, sarcastic, and she drinks a lot."

Faris loved the main message of the story. "This is a woman who's changing herself for everyone around her. She's trying to figure out who she is in terms of how people see her. Hopefully, the movie is about finding yourself."

Faris is married to actor Chris Pratt (from sitcom Parks and Recreation), who also features in What's Your Number as one of her boyfriends. "I loved working with my husband although it was pressure in that I was really nervous to act in front of him because I respect him so much. I suppose I don't mind strangers judging me, but it's tough when it's your partner," she says. "Actually, I was hoping he'd be a little jealous of Chris Evans, but that didn't happen. I thought, 'Finally, I'll have two men fighting over me'."
